GROWING UP AS THE OLDER SIBLING
Being the oldest child, I always wanted an elder sibling I could look up to, as well as someone to share experiences and advice with. During middle school, I found an outlet through reading fashion blogs such as Wendy’s Lookbook and Jean from Extra Petite. I loved seeing beautiful images of clothing and how these fashion bloggers styled their outfits. It gave me the inspiration to mix and match in my own closet. And from there, anytime I wanted to avoid spending money at the mall, I would go onto their blog website and it would satisfy my fashion cravings. This leads to my reason on why I started blogging.
IT IS ABOUT CONNECTIVITY
Although I believe that I can put an outfit together quite well, I am not a make-up guru. Once my love for make-up grew over the years and I began to experiment with more beauty products in middle and high school, I learned about Michelle Phan and was captivated by her persona. Michelle became an inspiration to me because of the obstacles she overcame, and when she spoke about her background, there were so many aspects I could relate to. It was then that I felt connected to her as if I had an older sibling to look up to.
AN INSPIRATIONAL SPIRAL
For many years, I admired the fashion bloggers and make-up guru from afar on their website and YouTube channel. However, I never thought to create my own, nonetheless, get on social media. I drew so much inspiration and positive energy from Wendy, Jean, and especially, Michelle, and the wildest thing is, they don’t even know that I exist, but these young women have touched my life in a way where I felt connected.
INSPIRE OTHERS TO PURSUE THEIR OWN DREAMS
I honestly never thought I would be writing this blog post today. I will be sharing more about the reason why I was a social media hermit for over ten years here, but in a short summary, I want to be an inspiration to others, and if I could do it, you CAN too, whatever goals and dreams that you want to accomplish. If someone else can do it, why not YOU?
NO ONE SAID IT WOULD BE EASY, BUT IT IS POSSIBLE
If everything in life was easy, everyone would be doing the same thing. But, I am here to tell you that there are no short cuts in life. We all must start somewhere. In fact, I started from scratch when I signed up for my social media accounts. Being completely honest, it has not been an easy ride; it takes hard work, patience, and determination. The absolute most important momentum that has kept me going is the support system around me. When I feel like there is not enough time in the day to get everything done, their support keeps me going. And now, I have YOU, my readers, to create genuine content and show up for.
YOU ARE A REFLECTION OF THE FIVE PEOPLE YOU ARE CLOSEST TO
These are the people who keep me accountable and when they ask, “how have you been doing”, it is because they truly care. Keep the people around in your life who will not lightly accept your answer as, “I am doing well” when you respond to the question, “How are you?”, but instead they ask, “How ARE you really?”. Tell me truthfully so I know how I can be there to support you in both the good and bad. Once you find your support system, hang on to them, and if you already have a support system, show them how much they are appreciated. We can accomplish good things on our own, but with an amazing support system, we can accomplish greatness.
